Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optometry)

Programme Overview

Bachelor of Optometry is a 5 Years undergraduate full-time programme. The first Four years of teaching are followed by one year of clinical training. The programme has an integrated interdisciplinary content with relevant aspects of General Anatomy & Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology and Microbiology in the Basic Sciences and Physical, Geometrical, Dispensing, Visual and Optometric Optics in the Core courses. There are practical training sessions in Basic Science, Dispensing Optics and Clinical subjects. Total Number of Seats 30.

  • icon Building of Skills - During the course, students will be able to hone their skills and would be able to work in the sphere of health care services with special focus on treatment of eyes.

Aims and Objectives of the Programme

The Bachelor in Clinical Optometry programme at BV (DU) MC School of Optometry follows all the recommendations of Government of India, Ministry of Family Welfare, National Commission for Allied Health Professions, Indian Optometric Association and World Council of Optometry.

The syllabus for the Bachelor of Clinical Optometry (B.Optom.) Programme aims to prepare a primary healthcare professional, an “Optometrist” who can:

  • iconEstimate refractive errors of the eye and prescribe corrective measures including Spectacles, Contact Lenses, Low Vision Aids and Vision Therapy.
  • iconDetect pathological conditions of the Visual system, which are deviations from normal. Diagnose ocular and related systemic and neurological diseases and refer the cases to other medical professionals for detailed medical and surgical management.
  • iconDesign, manufacture, prescribe and fit all kinds of Optical aids including Spectacles, Sunglasses, Ophthalmic Lenses, Contact Lenses, and Low Vision Aids.
  • iconExamine, diagnose and prescribe treatment for Oculo-motility malfunctions like phorias, tropias and other types of strabismus (squint) and Neuro-muscular anomalies.
  • iconUndertake Public Health Optometry projects and vision screening eye camps in schools, colleges, urban slums, rural areas and also practice occupational Optometry in industries.
  • iconProvide public education on ocular hygiene and related nutritional and environmental counselling.
  • iconOffer a helping hand and or efficiently manage and successfully run any Ophthalmic clinic, Eye department in hospitals, Optician shops, Optical, Ophthalmic industry & trade.

Tuition and other fees including deposits

Every student will have to pay the tuition and other fees and deposits as prescribed from time to time by Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University). University reserves the right to revise this fee structure.

Eligibility

Every candidate should satisfy the following minimum criteria to be able to appear for the EYECET examination and provisional admission to the First year B.Optom. Programme.

  • Candidate must have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Mathematics with 50% Marks.

Eligibility Criteria for Lateral Entry:

  • Lateral Entry to the candidates in second year (3rd Semester) who have passed Diploma in Optometry / Ophthalmic Assistant.
