About Department

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology aims to bring about a confluence of academic excellence while promoting the development of scientific temper among students. We strive to attain excellence in histopathological evaluation and diagnosis to provide quality patient care and contribute to the well-being of society.

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology at Bharati Vidyapeeth Dental College and Hospital, Sangli, was established in 2007. The department is actively involved in the histopathological reporting and diagnosis of biopsy specimens from the head and neck region. It also plays a pivotal role in undergraduate teaching by conducting the subjects Dental Anatomy, Embryology and Oral Histology for First BDS students and Oral Pathology and Microbiology for Second and Third BDS students.

The department has well-equipped and spacious practical halls for undergraduate teaching and a seminar room with modern audio-visual facilities to support interactive learning.

The department houses a well-organized museum containing unique pathological specimens, 3D models of various pathologies and developmental anomalies, cast models, tooth specimens, and pathology charts, which serve as valuable learning resources for undergraduate students, interns, and postgraduate students.

The department is supported by highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are committed to innovative teaching-learning methodologies and research. To enhance practical knowledge and skill development, the department regularly conducts Value-Added Course in Forensic Odontology for interns, providing hands-on training in forensic dental applications. The Department utilizes Virtual Microscopy as an advanced digital teaching and learning platform, enabling students to access and examine high-resolution histopathological slides to promote self-directed learning, enhancing diagnostic competency and providing a flexible, student-centered learning experience. These equip students and interns with advanced competencies beyond the regular curriculum, preparing them for clinical practice, research, and forensic investigations.
